Queenstown Skyline Gondola

Imposing mountain peaks, deep blue Lake Wakatipu, remote rolling hills and the sparkling Queenstown village in one panoramic vista, all from the Queenstown Skyline Gondola.

The Queenstown Skyline Gondola is an excellent way to get a bird’s eye view of Queenstown resort, Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains.  By doing it early during your stay, you’ll get a good overview of the region’s geographic features which will help you find your way around.  It is often included in package holidays because it’s a real winner!

It only takes a few minutes by gondola to ride the 450 vertical metres from the base station to the Skyline complex on Bob’s Peak.  If you can, ride up and down with your back to the hill so you get the primo views across the lake to the Remarkables Mountains, Cecil Peak and Walter Peak.

The Skyline complex is open 365 days, 0900 until late.  As well as offering stunning vistas from the viewing platforms, the complex also features a daytime cafe, Skyline Restaurant with buffet lunch and dinner, the Kiwi Haka live performance of authentic Maori songs and dances, downhill luge rides, star gazing and mountain bike trails. It’s all here and is especially family friendly, so if you have the kids with you and you’re looking for an optional  family fun inclusion, this is a “must”.

For honeymooners, a starlit buffet dinner in the Skyline Restaurant is totally magical.  Sip your wine and enjoy the twinkling resort lights beneath you.

If time is precious, then allowing just 30-45 minutes at the start or end of your day will still be very rewarding.  The lower sun early morning or at dusk also makes for spectacular photos.  But if you have more time to linger and enjoy some of the additional activities mentioned above, you’ll be assured of a great time.

What our clients say
Just arrived home yesterday after a month in Australia following on from New Zealand. Yes, we had a fantastic time in New Zealand which exceeded our expectations. We were blessed with good weather on the way to Mount Cook and the views over Lake Tekapo just got better and better as we approached. The weather held good for us all round the South Island and so we saw Te Anau, Queenstown and Wanaka at their best - just stunning. I could mention more places but I'm sure you've heard it all before. We were having our mid tour break with L's family in Christchurch when cyclone Gita arrived so that didn't affect us much although we did have a bit of a detour heading up to Picton because of a road closure due to a landslide.

The motels that you chose for us were very good, all with a similar standard of amenities. I was struck by how all the motel managers give such a friendly welcome and were so helpful. Athol and Lorraine Potterill at Harbour View Motel even booked our tickets to watch the New Zealand v England cricket match at Tauranga.

In summary, I would say that for us the South Island has the edge in terms of scenery although we did enjoy Napier and Bay of Islands in the North. The people we met were incredibly friendly and helpful. We would love to come back.

Thanks for doing a good job.
