Milford Sound Overnight Cruise - enchanting!

If experiencing New Zealand's more "natural" side is high on your holiday priority list, then here is a 13 day South Island off-the-beaten-track tour with a genuine difference, that includes the magnificent Milford Sound Overnight Cruise.

In just 13 days you’ll truly experience the South Island from some very unique angles.  Of course the Tranz Alpine train is a “must” to completely immerse you in the absolutely stunning and majestic scenery of the snow-capped Southern Alps.  Staying at small town Hokitika on the West Coast offers amazing ocean sunsets and dramatic beach walks right from your hotel’s front door.  The small village of Franz Josef is dominated by the mighty Franz Josef Glacier.  The opportunity to take a scenic flight over both the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier has got to be high on your list.  The relaxed alpine town of Wanaka, some say a smaller, more laid back version of Queenstown, offers an outstanding cruise to Stevensons Island’s nature reserve.  And all this time you have the extraordinary backdrop of the Mt Aspiring National Park’s snow-capped mountains.  This is one of NZ’s lesser known National Parks, but one of it’s most dramatic and beautiful.

The option to hike the Hollyford Track has got to be one of this tour’s outstanding features.  The dramatic Hollyford Track guided wilderness experience is one of the greatest nature walks in New Zealand.  You’ll explore undisturbed and inspiring scenery that has remained large untouched for thousands of years.  This track is pleasantly challenging and highly rewarding, without being out of reach for people with an average fitness level.  The average age of walkers is 40+ but many people in their 60’s and over have taken up the challenge and enjoyed this unique experience.

Milford Mariner overnight cruise

Overnight sailing Milford Sound on the Milford Mariner

Milford Sound is world renowned and a very special way to experience it is on a Milford Sound overnight cruise, after all the day trippers have disappeared.   Cruise the full length of this tranquil Sound to the vast Tasman Sea.  There is a nature guide on board to explain the natural features of the region.  The vessel anchors in a sheltered cove for the evening, the quality of the on-board meals is outstanding and your experience can include a gentle kayak on the dark green waters of the fiord. And the really good news is that the twin and double bed cabins have a very small, but private, ensuite!

These are just some of the excellent “off the beaten track” features of this 13 day Ultimate Southern Highlights.  You’ll still experience the iconic South Island landmarks, and so much more.  Tour groups are limited to just 30 per departure.  All departures are guaranteed (yay!).

Tour details and pricing, including early bird discounts.

And if you have more time and want to include the North Island as well, the 20 day Ultimate New Zealand is just the ticket.

What our clients say
We had a brilliant trip and can't thank you enough for all your excellent arrangements. The whole car hire was so good - easy pickup and drop off, good to take it over on the ferry and it was a lovely car - neither of us have automatics but we did appreciate it on all those twisty mountain roads. The motels were excellent, and fully met and even exceeded our needs and expectations. They were all spotless, comfortable and well equipped. We particularly liked the ones at Portobello, Clyde, Kaiteriteri, Whitianga and not forgetting Christchurch. The locations were spot on, convenient for access and often with lovely views. We loved staying at the Chateau in Tongariro. Such a beautiful hotel, with great food - we had a huge room, and a huge bathroom with a spa bath, which was much appreciated when we hobbled in after doing the Crossing! While on the subject, we had spa baths in a couple of other places too. We also really appreciated the location of the motel in Wellington as it was so easy to find on the highway (I must admit I had been a bit nervous about finding it in a strange city).
Thank you again for the refund on the motel at Kaiteriteri, much appreciated as it did cover the cost of the Greymouth motel.
People keep asking me what were the highlights of the trip, and it's very hard to say. I just loved the country, so beautiful, unpopulated, and with friendly people everywhere. We were challenged to our limits by the Tongariro Crossing, saw amazing wildlife - blue penguins, seals, Albatross, kiwis and enjoyed great food everywhere as the quality of your fish, lamb and steak is of the highest. We had the best fish and chips ever in the shop in Portobello!
The three places I would have loved to spend more time in were Portobello, Kaiteriteri (to walk the whole of the Abel Tasman which is so beautiful) and Whitianga as again, the Coromandel is an incredibly beautiful area. While we were there we had a wonderful afternoon at The Lost Spring, with fantastic massages - would definitely recommend that to everyone!
We enjoyed it all and I, at least, have been left wanting to see and do more, so who knows, might be back!
Thanks again for all your superb work on our behalf, which made it all so smooth and easy for us.
Hope all is well with you, Very best wishes,
