Day 1 Christchurch - Dunedin
drive across the vast patchwork of the Canterbury Plains
seaside town of Timaru by Caroline Bay
Oamaru, renowned for heritage buildings and blue penguins
Scottish heritage of Dunedin on the sparkling Otago harbour
overnight: City Hotel or similar Day 2 Dunedin - Clyde
morning Monarch Wildlife Cruise to view the albatross at Taiaroa Head
visit Penguin Place to see rare yellow-eyed penguins
afternoon drive via Roxburgh to old gold mining town of Clyde
overnight: Dunstan House, heritage hotel, or similar
Day 3 Cycling the Rail Trail (Omakau - Wedderburn)
report to Rail Trail base at Clyde, collect bike and transfer by minibus to Omakau
cycle Poolburn Gorge, with 2 tunnels and 2 viaducts, secluded, rocky gorge
attractions include remote Ida Valley, historic Hayes Engineering Workshop, gold mining remains
cycle distance: 45km
overnight: Wedderburn Cottages or similar
Day 4 Cycling the Rail Trail (Wedderburn - Hyde) - Queenstown
cycle mainly downhill to Ranfurly, Art Deco Capital of Otago
ride through small town Waipiata, then Daisybank to Hyde with Taieri river close by
cross 2 bridges and through the last tunnel, finish at Hyde - cycle distance: 43km
travel by shuttle bus back to Clyde, pick up rental car
drive through Cromwell (visit Cromwell Old Town), through rugged Kawarau Gorge
Queenstown, sparkling Lake Wakatipu
overnight: Browns Boutique Hotel or similar (bed and breakfast)
Days 5 & 6 Free Days in Queenstown - optional activities
2 free days to explore and enjoy as many exciting activities that you can fit in
perhaps a 4WD trip and thrilling jetboat in the remote Skippers Canyon
or an afternoon sampling world-renowned wines on a tour of the local vineyards
or a day excursion to Doubtful Sound or Milford Sound to cruise very remote fiords
or a guided hike or mountain biking
lake cruising, tandem skydiving, bungy jumping, river jetboating, scenic flying

Day 7 Queenstown - Lake Tekapo - Christchurch
retrace your route to Cromwell
cross the remote Lindis Pass to Omarama
perhaps take a side trip to Aoraki Mount Cook, along the shores of Lake Pukaki
Lake Tekapo for spectacular views from the summit of Mount John
optional scenic flight over the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park
return to Christchurch late afternoon, surrender rental car

Price is per person and based on share twin room occupancy. If you are travelling as a single, please let us know and we will advise single room supplements. Alternatively, if you have a family group, we can quote accordingly. Prices are indicative, subject to change and not applicable during any black-out periods. All arrangements are subject to availability. Bookings can be made by Visa, Mastercard or cashiers cheque at no extra charge.

The Rail Trail portion is unguided, but all arrangements specified are prebooked.
