Day 1: Arrive Christchurch

  • Highlights: Pick up your rental car at Christchurch airport on arrival. The remainder of your day is free to explore the Garden City, perhaps stroll the tree-lined pathways of Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens, take a tour on a double decker bus or a punt on the River Avon.
Day 2: Christchurch - Mount Cook - Queenstown

  • Highlights: Enjoy the spectacular glacial lakes of Tekapo & Pukaki, the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park alpine wilderness. See the raw beauty of the Lindis Pass and rugged Kawarau Gorge, rolling vineyards and gold mining relics.

Day 3: In Queenstown

Day 4: Queenstown - Te Anau

Day 5: Milford Sound Cruise

  • Highlights: The drive to Milford Sound is renowned as one of the world's most spectacular. Experience the best of the Fiordland National Park's amazing scenery and allow plenty of time for photo stops along the way.
    On arrival in Milford join the 3 hour Discover More cruise, the longest daytime cruise, so you can explore the fiord at leisure. Includes Milford Discovery Centre, Underwater Observatory and lunch.
    Te Anau to Milford Sound driving time: approx. 1 hour, 45 mins (one way)
Day 6: Te Anau - Dunedin

  • Highlights: Enjoy the rich, green farmland of Southland. Sparkling Dunedin harbour, home to rare Royal Albatross. This vibrant university city is full of life with its cafes set amidst Victorian-style architecture. Take a guided tour to view the yellow-eyed penguins on the Otago Peninsula or enjoy a relaxing scenic train trip on the historic Taieri Gorge Railway.

Day 7: Dunedin - Christchurch

  • Highlights: Travel along the blue Pacific coastline north to the seaside town of Oamaru with its distinctive white stone buildings and home to a little blue penguin colony. Further north is Timaru on the shores of graceful Caroline Bay, then reach Christchurch once again.
    This evening perhaps enjoy an optional dinner on board the historic Christchurch Tramway.

Day 8: Christchurch - Blenheim

  • Highlights: Drive along the rugged coastline of Kaikoura, watch for fur seals basking on the rocks. Time for an optional whale or dolphin watch cruise, kayaking in South Bay or swim with the seals.
    (Following the Nov 2016 Kaikoura earthquake the coast road between Christchurch and Blenheim is closed until further notice, likely early 2018. An alternative inland route is available via Springs Junction and Murchison which takes approx 2.5 hours longer)
    Arrive at Blenheim, the renowned wine heartland of Marlborough. Perhaps visit the wineries along Rapaura Road and the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, highly recommended.

Day 9: Blenheim - Wellington

Day 10: Wellington - Taupo

    Plumes of white geothermal steam at Wairakei, rugged hills blanketed by man-made forests. Perhaps stop at Waimangu Thermal Valley and Wai-O-Tapu en route. Experience rich Maori heritage, hot springs and adventure at Rotorua, on the shores of beautiful Lake Rotorua.

Day 12: In Rotorua - Maori Cultural Experience

Day 14: Whitianga Scenic Cruise

  • Highlights: Included this morning is a scenic cruise featuring Shakespeare's Cliff, Lonely Bay, Cooks Blowhole, Cathedral Cove and The Hole in the Rock. View fish in the Marine reserve an Gemstone Bay. Then to the Orua Sea Cave to hear the amazing acoustics when we play music or you can make your own on a Conch Shell or Didgeridoo before stopping for a short swim or snorkel if desired.
    Afternoon free time among beautiful bays, white sandy beaches and offshore islands. Scenic track to Cathedral Cove, adjacent to Marine Reserve. Kayak, snorkel or cruise the coves and inlets, dig your own hot pool in the sand at Hot Water Beach (low tide).
Day 15: Whitianga - Auckland
